Authentic Backyard Barbecue, Charcuterie & Preserves

When the Pig Came Home: Smokehouse & Larder specializes in what we call backyard barbecue. We use only the finest quality products which are locally and organically grown and come from a sustainable source. All of our barbecue is cooked on the well respected Weber Smokey Mountain and we use natural Canadian hardwood charcoal and Ontario sourced fruit and nut woods.

We will be located in both the Junction farmers market and Riverdale farmers market this summer.
Junction Farmers market will be every Saturday from 9-1 in the train platform lot at the corner of Dundas St. West and Pacific Ave.
Riverdale farmers market will be every Tuesday from 3-7 at Riverdale Farm on Winchester in historic Cabbagetown.

We are also available to cater your small parties. We are the perfect fit for birthdays, anniversaries, small parties and other events you may be hosting. Let us take the worry off of your hands and prepare and serve excellent barbecue and other fresh sides and salads in the comfort of your home.

I have 11 years of fine dining culinary experience which includes working at Centro, The Windsor Arms Hotel, and Gallery Grill, Hart House. I use cooking techniques and influences from Italy, Japan, Scandanavia, North Africa, West Indies, Korea and Poland / Eastern Europe.

I have always had a passion for barbecue ever since I was a child. With that passion growing and my skills and kowledge improving, I have and continue to create recipes and use classic techniques to cook food that ends up tasting unique to my style and is very delicious.

Other than barbecue, we also specialize in preparing organic, locally supplied & sustainable foods such as:

  • homemade sausages
  • smoked fish / grav lax
  • varieties of wild game and fish
  • cured meats and fish
  • confits
  • braised meats
  • slow roasted meats
  • steaks, burgers
  • vegetables and side dishes
  • fresh salads
  • marinades
  • spice blends
  • BBQ sauces
  • hot sauces
  • and a variety of other foods.

I tried the jerk pork with Canadian wild rice salad at the Junction Farmers’ Market. The pork was very tasty – just the right amount of char and crunch, and full of flavour. The salad was also great; chopped bell peppers added colour and the nutty flavour of the rice complemented the fatty pork perfectly. I’ll definitely try a BBQ dish from When the Pig Came Home again.
